# Refund via Shopify POS (Return)

> Process the return as usual in Shopify POS — the card repayment runs via SumUp.

<Note>
  Refunds use the **native Shopify POS return**. There is no PosBridge tile for this. You confirm the return in Shopify; PosBridge then sends the card portion to SumUp.
</Note>

*About 1 minute*

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the order">
    Shopify POS → **Orders** → select the order.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Start the return">
    Tap **Return** or **Refund** and select items, quantities and restocking as usual.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the same payment method">
    Choose the same **custom payment method** as the sale (e.g. *SumUp*). **Do not choose cash** for the card portion.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm in Shopify">
    Confirm the return in Shopify. PosBridge then sends the card portion to SumUp.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  For split or mixed payments only the **SumUp share** is sent to SumUp. A tip collected on the terminal is **not** refunded.
</Tip>

### Check the status

On the order in the PosBridge block or in the app under **Refunds**:

* **Refunded**
* **Processing…**
* **Waiting for balance** — automatic retry about every 15 minutes, for up to 7 days. Details: [Waiting for balance](/en/refunds/refund-waiting-balance).
* **Failed** — retry
* **Cancelled** — app only

<Note>
  Shopify can already show the order as refunded while SumUp still shows **Waiting for balance**. That is normal.
