# Collect Outstanding Balance

> Set up once, take a partial amount on the Solo, leave the rest open — later collect balance and tap Collect payment in Shopify.

With PosBridge you first take part of the amount on the SumUp Solo and leave the rest open in Shopify. Later you open the order, collect on the Solo, and record it in Shopify — after SumUp the order is **not** marked paid automatically.

#### Flow in brief

* **Once:** Smart Grid tile + PosBridge block and/or *Collect balance* action in the POS editor (per location)
* **First checkout:** tile → *Partial amount* → Solo, then in Shopify only the SumUp amount — rest unpaid. Or cash first, rest unpaid.
* **Later:** order → *Collect balance* / *Collect with SumUp* → Solo → Shopify *Collect payment* + SumUp payment type. Do not tap the card again.

*About once*

<Steps>
  <Step title="Smart Grid tile">
    In Shopify POS, edit the Smart Grid and add the **SumUp Payment** (PosBridge) tile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="POS editor: Order details">
    Shopify admin → **Sales channels** → **Point of Sale** → **Customize in-store** / **Edit POS app** → choose the location → **Order details**. Enable the **PosBridge block** and/or the action **Collect balance**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Per location">
    Tile, block and action are **per location**. Check each POS location in the editor.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### First checkout: partial card, rest unpaid

The customer pays part on the Solo now. In Shopify you record only that SumUp amount — leave the rest unpaid.

*About 2–3 minutes*

<Steps>
  <Step title="Fill the cart">
    Add the items to the Shopify POS cart as usual.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tile → Partial amount → Solo">
    Tap the PosBridge tile. Choose **Partial amount** (not **Full amount**), enter the amount and tap **Send payment**. The customer pays on the Solo.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record only the SumUp amount in Shopify">
    Back at checkout: choose the **custom payment type** (e.g. SumUp) and record **only** the amount taken on the Solo — not the full cart.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Leave the rest unpaid">
    **Do not** collect the rest. Complete the order with an outstanding balance.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Or: cash first, rest unpaid, SumUp later

Take a cash partial now, leave the rest open, and collect on the Solo later.

*About 2–3 minutes*

<Steps>
  <Step title="Cash partial at checkout">
    At checkout, record the partial amount as **cash**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Leave the rest open">
    **Do not** collect the rest. Complete the order with an outstanding balance.
  </Step>

  <Step title="SumUp later">
    When the rest is due: use **Collect balance** below — not the cart tile again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### Later: collect the outstanding balance

How to take the rest of an existing order on the Solo — then record it in Shopify.

*About 1–2 minutes*

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the order">
    Shopify POS → **Orders** → order with an outstanding balance.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Collect balance / Collect with SumUp">
    In the **PosBridge block** tap **Collect with SumUp** — or **Collect balance** in the actions menu.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Customer pays on the Solo">
    The outstanding amount is sent to the Solo. The customer pays by card. Live status, cancel is possible.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Shopify: Collect payment">
    Then in Shopify tap **Collect payment** and choose the **custom SumUp payment type**. **Do not tap the card again** — the amount is already taken on the Solo.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  After the SumUp payment the order is **not automatically paid** in Shopify. Only **Collect payment** + the SumUp payment type marks it paid and unlocks the receipt.
</Warning>

<Tip>
  At first checkout: after the tile payment, record **only** the SumUp amount on the custom payment type in Shopify checkout. Leave the rest unpaid — or take cash first, leave the rest open, SumUp later.
</Tip>

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Do I still need to tap something in Shopify after the card payment?">
    Yes — always. After the tile: in checkout record only the SumUp amount on the custom payment type. After **Collect balance**: **Collect payment** + SumUp payment type. PosBridge does **not** mark the order paid automatically.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Why must I not tap the card again?">
    The amount is already taken on the Solo. **Collect payment** only records it in Shopify. A second card payment would charge twice.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Which terminal is used?">
    PosBridge automatically suggests the right terminal (device assignment before location). If several are online, you can choose before **Send payment** or **Collect with SumUp**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="How do refunds work with multiple payments?">
    Automatically: PosBridge distributes the refund across the correct SumUp transactions. For card + cash, only the SumUp share is refunded via SumUp.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Do all payments appear under Transactions?">
    Yes. Every card payment — partial amount or collect balance — is a separate SumUp transaction. In the app: menu **Transactions**.
